Javier Bardem and the challenge of speaking with a Mexican accent

The actor shows his acting knowledge in The Roads Not Taken

Spanish actor Javier Bardem is a renowned specialist in playing highly seasoned characters.

Although his multifaceted spirit will be tested with his starring role in The Roads Not Taken, the new film directed by British Sally Potter.

The Spanish actor is not only faced with the challenge of playing a man suffering from dementia, but he must also speak with a Mexican accent, due to his character’s nationality. Something he described as "quite difficult".

However, he had the help of a specialist: his co-star, the Mexican Salma Hayek. "Every morning Javier came saying, "Viva México, cabrones," the actress said laughing.

A film that will make you think

Leo's (Bardem) mind makes him live alternate realities all the time; sometimes it is about what could have happened had he made other decisions. A captivating character accompanied by his daughter (Elle Fanning), who takes him to the doctor on a busy day.

Hayek plays Leo's ex-wife in some unmissable scenes that were filmed in Almeria (Spain) although the film takes place in Mexico.

This is certainly a film to keep in mind once movie theaters are open again. Let's be patient!
